Monsoon Care
How to Keep Your Car Clean During the Indian Monsoon Season
The monsoon is good news for reservoirs and bad news for your car's paint. For three to four months, your car faces a relentless cycle of mud spray, water spots, humidity, and grime that bonds to paint surfaces.
Most car owners either over-wash during monsoon — causing water spotting and paint fatigue — or give up entirely and let the grime sit. There's a smarter middle path that keeps your car clean, protected, and looking good even on the wettest days of the year.
The Monsoon Paint Threats
Mud and road spray
Driving on wet Indian roads throws up a mixture of water, fine soil, and road grit at high velocity onto the lower panels and wheel arches. This mud bonds quickly when it dries, especially in areas where residual heat remains.
Water spots from rain drying
Indian rainwater carries dissolved minerals and airborne particles. When it dries on your car without being wiped off, it leaves water spots — mineral rings that etch slightly into the surface over time and require polishing to fully remove.
Humidity and mould
High monsoon humidity encourages mould growth in door seals, under-bonnet areas, and boot seals. While this doesn't directly damage paint, mould spreading from rubber seals to paint edges can leave staining that is difficult to remove.
Grime adhesion in wet conditions
Wet surfaces attract and hold dust particles more readily than dry surfaces. Grime that forms in wet conditions bonds differently than dry-weather dust — it requires water and shampoo to break down, not a dry duster.
The Monsoon Maintenance Routine
1
Use the duster on dry days only
Between rain events, when surfaces are dry, use the CarCare360 Car Duster for loose dust removal as normal. Never on wet or damp surfaces — wet grit on a duster scratches paint. If the car is damp from overnight humidity, wait or wipe dry first.
2
Wash after every muddy rain event
After any drive in heavy rain that left mud, road grime, or visible deposits — wash promptly. Mud left to dry on paint bonds tightly and becomes significantly harder to remove safely. A prompt wash while grime is still hydrated is far safer than trying to remove dried mud later.
3
Dry the car after washing — always
Monsoon rain is dirty rain. Water left to dry on the surface leaves mineral deposits. After every wash during monsoon, dry immediately with a clean microfibre. Don't let monsoon humidity do the "drying" for you.
4
Enter monsoon with protection applied
Apply a paint sealant or ceramic booster spray before the monsoon begins (typically June). A protected surface sheds water more effectively, makes mud easier to remove, and reduces water spot formation. Entering monsoon without protection significantly increases damage risk.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does rain clean my car or make it dirtier?
Mostly dirtier. Indian rain water picks up airborne pollutants and acidic compounds as it falls, and collects road grime on impact. The first rain after dry weather is particularly dirty — it washes months of settled pollution off surfaces and deposits it on your car.
Should I wax my car before or during monsoon?
Before — ideally 2–3 weeks before monsoon begins to allow the wax to fully cure. Waxing during monsoon is difficult because the surface needs to be fully dry and clean for application, and humidity affects curing. A paint sealant is more practical than traditional wax in monsoon conditions.
What about the underside of my car during monsoon?
The undercarriage takes the most punishment during monsoon — mud, water, road salt. A thorough undercarriage flush with water after heavy muddy drives prevents long-term corrosion. Most petrol stations with pressure washers offer this service at minimal cost.
